Morning: Journey into the Gobustan Desert
Your day starts in Baku, where you meet your guide and head around 70km south into the desert landscape of Gobustan National Park.

Stop 1: Mud Volcanoes
One of the most unique natural phenomena in Azerbaijan is its incredible concentration of Mud Volcanoes.
These bubbling craters look like something from another planet. The thick grey mud slowly erupts from the earth, creating a surreal, lunar-like landscape.
Fun fact: Azerbaijan is home to nearly half of the world’s mud volcanoes.
Stop 2: Gobustan Rock Art Museum
Next, you’ll visit the museum at Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape.
This modern exhibition space gives important context before you see the real thing. It explains:
- How prehistoric humans lived
- The significance of the area
- The evolution of early human culture

Stop 3: Gobustan Petroglyphs
After the museum, you’ll explore the actual rock carvings – some dating back over 40,000 years.

Evening: Return to Baku
After a full day of exploring, you’ll head back to Baku in the evening.
